SEO Checklist for Ecommerce Brands: January Edition
While everyone else is still recovering from Christmas, January can actually be one of the most important months for your SEO strategy.
Yes, January sales can be big, but this month is also about setting yourself up for success for the year ahead. It's a time to reflect on last year's highs, and think about changes you want to make in 2026.
With that in mind, here's my SEO checklist for ecommerce brands this January:
🎄Remove ALL Christmas Content
I know it's an obvious one, but it's really easy to overlook Christmas content lurking in the darker corners of your website!Go through your entire site and strip out every mention of Christmas; festive imagery, gifting collections, and last delivery dates.
Outdated seasonal content looks unprofessional and can actually hurt your rankings as search engines favour current, relevant information.
❤️ Valentine's Day Push
If your products are relevant to Valentines Day, you should be getting those collection pages live asap to give them a chance to rank.
Add gift guides for "Valentine's gifts for her" or "romantic presents for him" and make sure they're prominently linked from your homepage.
Valentine's searches peak in early February, so you've got a narrow window.
🤓 Analytics Review & Strategy
If you find January a quieter time then normal, use this space to review your Christmas (and 2025) performance. Ask yourself:Which pages and products performed best over the festive season?
Has your organic traffic grown or shrunk over the last 12 months?
Are you happy with the volume of visits and sales you got from SEO, or do you feel like you missed your potential?
Once you know this, you can start to form a plan for 2026.
