SEO Checklist for Ecommerce Brands: September Edition

You don’t need me to tell you how hectic September can be for ecommerce brands! With the kids heading back to school this week, and eyes focussing in on Q4,  it's time to switch your site from summer mode and start laying the groundwork to end the year on a high.

Remember, the changes you make to your website now will be fully indexed and ranking by Black Friday! 🍂🎯

With that in mind, here are 3 essential SEO tasks for September, to help remove some of the guess work for you:

1) 🍁 Time for your seasonal content swap

It's time to say goodbye to summer (😭), and hello to autumn. Audit your site for outdated seasonal references in product descriptions, meta titles, and category pages.

Eg. Replace "summer essentials" with "autumn favourites" and "back-to-school must-haves."

Don't just hide those summer products. Redirect discontinued seasonal URLs to relevant autumn alternatives to preserve your SEO juice and prevent 404 pages. This will keep your site looking fresh and current to both users AND search engines.

2) 👗Launch your Q4 product pages ASAP

Even if you don't have your full Q4 inventory yet, it's important to get as many of your Christmas bestsellers live on your site NOW!

Don't have the stock yet? Don't worry...

Create detailed product pages for all of your key Q4 items and set them up with preorder or "notify when available" options to make sure they're already ranking BEFORE the products arrive.

The earlier these pages are indexed, the better they'll rank when Christmas shopping begins in full force.

3) 🎁 Optimise for early gift searches

Lots of September searchers are already thinking ahead!

Create content around early Christmas Shopping, Corporate Gifts and Gift Guides to make sure your content is ready and waiting for their searches.

Focus on gift-focused keyword categories like "gifts for [target audience]" and "Christmas [product category], and GET THOSE CHRISTMAS BLOG POSTS LIVE NOW!

Hopefully this has helped to provide some direction for your SEO plans this month.
